God’s Promises

For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!”

2 Corinthians 1:20

EVERYONE STRUGGLES. That’s the nature of life outside Eden. Job 5:7 describes our dilemma: “People are born for trouble as readily as sparks fly up from a fire.”

Let’s take a look at two common areas of struggle: work and relationships. First, work. We struggle to make a living. Our jobs are often difficult. Sometimes they don’t pay as much as we think we need. And for some of us, it can be hard even to find good work. Truly, we experience many “thorns and thistles” (Genesis 3:18) in our work lives. And as men, our pain is compounded by the fact that so much of our identity tends to be wrapped up in what we do, even if we know it shouldn’t be that way.

We also tend to struggle in our relationships. Marriage, while a great blessing, is not always easy. Parenting, though rewarding, is challenging too. And being a good friend sometimes requires us to make great sacrifices.

Nevertheless, God’s promises in Jesus are enough to sustain us. The apostle Peter writes, “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises” (2 Peter 1:3-4). Everything required for life has been provided through God’s power and promises. His Word really can be trusted. He really is enough.

BOTTOM LINE

You can have confidence that, no matter what life throws at you, God’s grace is enough to sustain you. Believe His promises. He is absolutely faithful.
