Finding Jesus

It had been revealed to [Simeon] by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he saw the Lord’s Messiah.

THE GREAT SCIENTIST Blaise Pascal said we have a God-shaped vacuum inside us that only God can fill. We were created to know God, and nothing in this world can take His place in our lives. If we live for thirty, fifty, seventy, or ninety years and don’t find God, it really doesn’t matter what else we’ve done with our lives. If we don’t find God, we have missed the very reason for our existence. If we miss out on knowing God, we will have missed the central reality of the universe. Compared to knowing the one who made us, everything else is superficial and ultimately unsatisfying.

Simeon spent many years of his life committed to the task of looking for the Messiah. His looking was not a casual observance, a passing glance, or a nonchalant peek. His looking was intentional. It was an honest, sincere waiting for the Savior. Though we don’t know how long he waited between the time the Spirit spoke and the time Jesus was born, Simeon believed God and remained faithful to the hope that God’s promise would be fulfilled.

Are you hungry for more spiritual truth? Do you want to experience more of the Savior? Many things can wait, but the search for more of God’s presence, power, and love cannot wait. He has given us a constant longing in our hearts for more of Him, and we should follow that longing with all we’ve got.

BOTTOM LINE

Are you restless for the Savior? Are you desperate to know Him better? Seek Him. Pursue Him. You were made to know Him and love Him.
