Everything For Jesus

Everything For Jesus

Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Colossians 3:17, HCSB

COLOSSIANS HAS A LOT TO SAY ABOUT JESUS. In fact, it’s hard to imagine a more exalted picture of the Son of God. As you read the following excerpt, pay close attention to the degree of Christ’s supremacy (which we have highlighted with italics):

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For everything was created by Him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together. He is also the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He might come to have first place in everything.

Colossians 1:15-18, HCSB

On and on it goes! Just from this section, we can see that everything was made by Jesus and for Jesus (and that includes us). Not only that, but Jesus continues to sustain all of creation. In summary, He has “first place in everything.”

When confronted with the majesty of Jesus, the proper response is worship—worship that is meant to spill into every area of life. “Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” That’s our joy and calling.

BOTTOM LINE

When we see how great Jesus is, we will be drawn to worship. And when we worship Him, we will become more like the one we worship.
