Beautiful Praise

Let the godly sing for joy to the LORD; it is fitting for the pure to praise him.

Psalm 33:1

IN GENERAL, it’s good for us to rejoice, to be thankful, to praise what we find praiseworthy. Think about it: It’s almost impossible to be miserable while you’re praising something, just as it’s almost impossible to be happy while you’re complaining about something. So praise is a good thing, and we ought to be offering it as much as possible.

Yet there are many things that can keep us from feeling joyful, thankful, and full of praise. If our strategy is to wait until all of our circumstances are perfect before finally choosing to give praise—and it often is a choice—we’ll never praise. Ever. Well, not until heaven, anyway. The good news, though, is that there is always a solid reason to give praise now, and that’s because the object of our praise—the Lord—is always worthy of it. That’s wonderfully good news that can take us far beyond mere positive thinking and a good attitude.

Our heavenly Father delights in the praises of His children. It absolutely thrills His heart when His children offer their praises to Him out of thankful hearts. Why? Because we were made for that purpose. It’s not that God has a huge ego that needs to be continually stroked. It’s that we desperately need to understand that God is supremely worthy of our praise and that praising Him is what we were designed to do.

BOTTOM LINE

You don’t have to wait for a good reason to praise when God is your heavenly Father. Let it flow freely for your good and His glory.
