The Very Best Valentine - The One Year Daily Acts of Kindness Devotional

The Very Best Valentine

I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

My husband and I were going through a challenging time with one of our children. After a particularly difficult day, I knelt down until I was at eye level with my child’s little face. I whispered to this little soul, “Do you know what? I love you. Nothing you can do will ever make me stop loving you.”

As I spoke those words to the heart of my child, I could hear them echoing inside my own heart, from my Savior to me: I love you without condition, without strings, without regard for your lists of regrets or accomplishments. I love you.

How often do we allow something we’ve done—or something we’ve left undone—to determine our value? We so easily forget that value based on achievements is a worldly definition and has nothing to do with Christ. We need not strive, need not prove ourselves worthy of his love—because, quite honestly, we can’t.

Friend, you are loved by God. You have no say in the matter, and you can do nothing to stop him from loving you. There is no place that you can go to escape his love, and there is no one who can separate us from God’s love. Isn’t that realization comforting?

No matter where you find yourself, no matter the dark valleys you may walk through, you are loved by God. You are loved so deeply that his only Son, Jesus, willingly went to his death on a cross for you—before you were born, before you knew of him, and regardless of whether you would ever choose to love him in return.
