The Football Fan
“What should we do then?” the crowd asked. John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”

My husband, Tim, is a huge football fan. More specifically, as a native of Denver, he’s a huge Broncos fan. It’s not unusual to see us as a family wearing Broncos colors to church during football season. In fact, our children learned early on to identify blue and orange as Broncos colors.
Because he is such a fan, my husband has a variety of pieces of Broncos apparel that he wears quite often. One evening while Tim was serving a meal at our local homeless shelter, a man coming through the dinner line struck up a conversation with him.
“Hey, Broncos! I love the Broncos! You think this is it, their year?” he asked, smiling as they continued to talk stats and Super Bowl odds. As the night progressed, any time this man and Tim ran across each other, the man would light up and they’d share a smile.
Finally, toward the end of the night, Tim searched for the man. Finding him, he pulled off his Broncos shirt and threw it to the guy, retaining his undershirt. Clearly, he takes the whole give-someone-the-shirt-off-your-back message of Luke 3 literally, sharing both food and his shirt with the man over the course of the evening. And although the man had a shirt of his own, he seemed touched that Tim cared enough to give him something he loved.
“Are you serious?” the man asked, shocked. “Are you sure?”
The two hugged each other like long-lost best friends, and Tim headed out for the night. But the next night, when Tim showed up to drop off some gifts for an event, he saw the man again. Lo and behold, he was wearing the Broncos shirt.

Share something you love with someone else. This could take many forms but can be as simple as making your favorite dessert and sharing it with neighbors.
