Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.
Hebrews 10:24
Not long ago I received a call from a social worker in my county, who was wondering if I’d be willing to share with a group of potential foster parents about my experience as a foster parent myself. Without hesitating, I said, “Yes! I love to talk to others about fostering children in need.” A few weeks later, I had the opportunity to meet with the group, answer their questions, speak about the joys and fears associated with fostering, and give them an honest overview of what it’s like to be a foster parent.
As I spoke with the parents during and after the meeting, it was encouraging for me to share all the challenging and joyful parts of being a foster parent while also listening to their stories and answering questions as best I could. I could see the excitement in the attendees’ eyes—excitement that mirrored my own—as we all shared our desire to care for kids who really need it. We left thanking one another for the support we all felt on our foster-care and adoption journeys.
No matter what we’re doing or in what stage of life we find ourselves, we all have wisdom that we can use to encourage one another. There are many ways that we can motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Is there something in your life that you are passionate about? Perhaps there are issues happening in our world that deeply concern you. Sharing what you know with others who have the same concerns not only encourages them but shows kindness by letting them know they are not alone in their convictions. We are called to support one another, and sharing what you know or have learned through your life experiences is valuable and worth mentioning to others who are on a similar path. You just might motivate them to do good works of their own for the same cause.
