Kindness For The Road

Kindness for the Road

Whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone.

Galatians 6:10

My family and I like to travel. It’s been important to both my husband and me to share memories with our kids through experiencing new things together. This past year we traveled by car from Minnesota to Seattle, and we decided to do kind acts along the way. We did this by leaving coffee gift cards with little notes for other travelers at rest stops, leaving notes of encouragement and extra tips for the people who cleaned our hotel rooms, and graciously letting people merge while driving.

It’s been a fun experience to share with our kids as we wonder who will find our secret gifts and what they’ll think when they stumble upon them. It’s been a good way for my kids to see that we can bless people no matter where we are or what we’re doing.

Being kind is a way of life and a different way of thinking, not just an action we perform every now and then. It’s a habit we want to continue doing everywhere we go. It has also reminded us to be grateful for the work that others do each day—work that is often too easy to forget or ignore.

Looking for ways that we can bless other people along the way on a trip or in life is something we can all do. It doesn’t matter if we travel far from our homes or not; we can all look for small ways to be a blessing in someone else’s day. Scripture reminds us that whenever we have an opportunity, we should do good to everyone. Look at the activities of your daily life and see if there are ways to give others encouragement or kindness on a more regular basis. Where do you go and what do you do each day? These are the opportunities God has given you to be kind.
