International Kindness

She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy.

Proverbs 31:20

Not long ago, Julie, Kristin, and I received an e-mail from Work of Worth, an organization that works with artisans from developing countries and sells their products for a fair price in the United States and other countries. They wondered if we would want to curate a collection of goods with their organization. Of course we were completely honored to do so, wanting to support women around the world who are trying to make a living to provide for their families.

We picked out our favorite items, wrote blog posts about them, and then shared on social media about this outstanding organization (in addition to purchasing many items ourselves). We continue to support Work of Worth and regularly let our readers know of the wonderful things they and other organizations like them are doing around the world to help people provide for themselves and their families.

There are so many great organizations doing good around the world. Kindness is not something we want to do just at home—we should also take care of those we do not know and may never meet. Whether it’s through buying jewelry, clothing, shoes, or scarves, we can all find a way to support such organizations. They are providing work and a way for many to make a living, enabling them to care for their families even while living in communities that have very few resources or jobs available. Kindness can certainly start at home, but it should not end there.

Scripture encourages us that a virtuous woman will extend a helping hand to the poor and will open her arms to the needy. We all have the opportunity to do this in a variety of ways. What causes around the world concern you most? Who could you help today through prayer or financial support, perhaps through a donation or by purchasing a fair-trade item?
