We Want You

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!

My friend is a supervisor for a large organization in our town. During the past year the business went through several transitions, and as often happens, the employees weren’t happy with the changes. My friend was required to meet with each employee under her supervision to discuss their concerns.

One evening as we prayed for her work situation, she said her boss told her to approach each of these meetings with one goal in mind—to say to the person across from her, “We want you here.” And to truly mean it.

She’d already had several meetings, and she said it disarmed people when they knew they were wanted and valued—not only as an employee but as a person. From that point on, the interactions went well—even when there were differences of opinion—because the employees knew they were a valuable part of the team.

I left our time together thinking about what she said and wondering about conversations I have with family, friends, and strangers throughout my day. Do these people walk away feeling wanted? Sometimes, I’m sure, but not always. I’m determined to do better.

Don’t we all want to know that we are included, loved, and wanted? I know I do. My friend’s work situation is an important reminder for all of us—that no matter who we interact with or the differences we may have—letting people know that they are wanted and cared for is always our greatest goal.

And isn’t this what God does for each of us? He calls us his children, dearly loved. So regardless of what we’ve done or who we are, we know that if we come to him, we will be loved. This is what I desire for myself and for those around me.
