Trusting God’s Voice
Trusting God’s Voice
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
We were watching our kids play together when our small talk turned serious.
“I think we might put Lena on medication for her anxiety,” my friend confided to me. “We’ve tried many other things, and although they’ve helped, it’s not been as much as we’d like. Her doctor is in support of it at this time too.”
I paused before responding. “I think you are doing a good thing for her right now. When we finally decided to put our child on medication for his anxiety, we saw a night and day difference. It may not be for everyone, but we found it helpful,” I replied, trying to catch her eye.
She nodded as she slowly met my gaze. “Thanks. It’s nice to know we’re not alone.”
I smiled back. “You’re doing a good job,” I whispered as tears filled our eyes. “You’re a good mom just trying to help your child in any way you can—and you’ll never regret that.”
She nodded as we both wiped our tears, and a shared understanding of wanting what’s best for our kids passed between us.
Making decisions for ourselves or our loved ones is not always easy. We wonder if we are doing the right thing. Often, we have to weigh choices and pray for the right answers to life’s questionable situations.
But over time, if we continue to bring our needs to God, asking for his help, we will begin to learn and know his voice speaking to us through Scripture, prayer, life circumstances, and even other people. And as we do, we can trust that he’ll give us the direction we need, showing us the path we should take, whispering to us, “This is the way; walk in it.”
