The God Of Details
The God of Details
What is the price of five sparrows—two copper coins? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
Growing up, we had big windows that ran nearly from floor to ceiling in our living room. On sunny days, they cast large rectangles of light across the length of the room.
As a child, one of my greatest delights was lying in the warmth of the sun as it streamed in. Sometimes I’d grab a blanket or pillow, other times a book, but I loved to lie there and doze. The temperature outdoors could be below zero or unbearably hot, and it wouldn’t matter, so cozy was my spot on the floor.
Sometimes, as an adult, it’s easy to forget about those small pleasures that bring us joy: a fan that blows toward our face on a hot day, the way grass feels under our bare feet, the bracing chill of waves racing across sand to wash over our toes. While we might notice the larger details—the mountains that rise before us, the ocean’s rolling waves—we overlook those tiny pleasures, those little reminders that help ground us in the moment.
I love the passage in Luke in which Jesus talks about how God is the God of details. He says that even the hairs on our heads are numbered. Sometimes it’s easy to get so caught up in our worries over the big parts of life that we forget to enjoy the small things. But just like the hairs on our heads, little things matter. They are important to God, just as we are important to God. Because of this truth, we can rest assured that the God of details cares about every part of our lives—both the big and the small things. We can trust him with all of it and thank him for every small pleasure this life offers.

Today’s Act of Gratitude
Take time to notice tiny pleasures—the weight of a cozy blanket, the coolness of a glass of ice water in your hands, or the warmth of the sun on your skin.
