Sharing Your Passion

Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

My husband loves to cook. It wasn’t something he did or enjoyed when we were first married, but it’s become a passion of his over the years. He loves to grow food, has several gardens on our property, and makes meals from what he produces.

He enjoys trying new foods and new combinations of flavors and is constantly experimenting with different varieties of plants. Each winter, he scours seed catalogs looking for interesting fruits and vegetables, and every year he adds something that he’s never grown before. I’ve come to appreciate the time and effort he puts into his gardens, knowing how much he loves the work.

But Kyle’s greatest joy from gardening, cooking, and creating new cuisine is sharing it with others and seeing them enjoy what he makes. It’s really not even about the food. It’s about his love for serving people and seeing their reaction to his latest creation. Whether it’s grilling or smoking lamb or tenderloin or assembling a veggie dish from his imagination, his passion is people and loving them well, and one way he shows it is by feeding them. I’m thankful for the people and dishes it’s brought to our table that probably wouldn’t be there otherwise, as he invites others in, along with their ethnic dishes, and shows us the vast array of God’s unique creations.

We all have distinct passions; God made each of us with the desire to pursue different things. But no matter what they are, we can use them to love God and others and bring glory to him. Scripture says that whether we are eating or drinking, or whatever else we are doing throughout our days, we should do it all for God’s glory. No activity or interest that we pursue is too great or too small to matter to God. It can all be used to honor him.
