Cheer Each Other On

Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God.

My daughter Jasmine loves to dance and has made some wonderful friendships with other girls at the studio. These girls have spent several years together, and although they aren’t all on the same team anymore, they continue to cheer each other on.

One spring day, we were on our way to a competition in the next town. It was going to be a long day of dancing, and Jasmine’s team was second to last on the schedule, with her friend Brooklyn’s solo as the last performance of the day.

By the time my daughter’s team took the floor, many attendees had already left, and just a handful of us sat toward the front of the auditorium. After their performance, Brooklyn stepped onstage. As her music began, we heard a voice yell from the back of the room, “Go, Brooklyn!”

One of the moms leaned over and whispered, “That’s your girl.”

I nodded as I smiled to myself.

Later, I asked Jasmine about what she had done and why. She explained that she knew Brooklyn would be the last dance of the day and that most people would have already left.

“I wanted her to know she still had a friend cheering her on, so as soon as we were done, I ran back through the hallway and into the room to watch Brooklyn dance.”

My eyes filled with tears as I hugged her. “I’m proud of you, honey,” I said.

If there’s ever been a time for us to cheerlead for one another, it’s now. With the world the way it is and the negativity barraging us through social media and news outlets and even sometimes in our own heads, we need to support each other. Scripture is clear: we are to continue loving one another because love is from God. One way we can show our gratitude for God’s love is to be a cheerleader to others. It sounds simple but can have a significant impact on those around us.
