A Mentor Like Carol

The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain.

I walked into the clinic for an appointment. After making my way to the counter and checking in, I turned toward the waiting area and saw my dear friend and mentor, Carol.

She had a huge smile, and as she leaned in to hug me, she exclaimed, “I am just so proud of you!” Her face beamed as she let me go from her embrace, explaining that she sees all my posts on social media and enjoys hearing about all we do with our kids and their activities.

“You are such a good mom,” she said.

We chatted about life for a few more minutes before she left and I went to sit down, but hours later, her affirmation was still ringing in my ears.

Carol is an encourager. A few decades my senior, she is old enough to be my mother. She is someone who mentors younger women beyond an age anyone would expect her to, stays relevant, and loves others well, inviting them into her circle of friendship and mentorship without hesitation. She is wise and loving, and I am always encouraged when I’m with her.

Everything she says is sincere, and people pay attention when she compliments or tells them what she loves about them. I messaged her later, letting her know that seeing her made my day. There are not many people like her, and I’m so grateful to know her.
