We’re in This Together

Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.

Not long ago, I joined an online group of women entrepreneurs to gain support and knowledge for my business. What I did not know when I began was that this group of women not only shared tips and advice but also encouraged one another in their businesses on a daily basis. They are constantly reminding each other that the work they do is valuable and worth a decent wage. I smile every time I see the women in the group, who otherwise wouldn’t know one another, cheer each other on, problem-solve difficult situations, and affirm one another.

It’s astonishing to find such community (and not competition) among women who are all in a similar profession, but it works so well. There is an unspoken understanding that we are all in this together, even though we each work on our own. Our group has a shared camaraderie: we want everyone to be successful.

Proverbs teaches us that kind words can do our souls and bodies just as much good as healthy food—and that is what I see in my online friends. This group of women exemplifies more than just good business sense; they are modeling good friendship qualities by bringing life and health to each other through the words that they speak. Everyone in the group knows she belongs, she is valuable, and what she offers is worthwhile. In essence, we each matter.

The truth is that whether we own our own businesses or not, we all need friends who will encourage us and remind us of our worth. We all need friends who make us feel like we aren’t alone. My online group has been a reminder to continually uplift and encourage other friends in my life. You can never share too many sincerely kind words with others. They really are sweet to our souls.
