Friends On Mission

Friends on Mission

He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.

Ephesians 4:16

“We will be back in time to come over for the BBQ!” Julie texted one beautiful afternoon. “What can we bring, and how can we help?” she asked.

Relief flooded me, since I’d just told her earlier that day that I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. We had a party we planned for that evening, and I was wondering if we had enough space for fifty people. I quickly sent back a reply with a request for additional chairs and tables, along with gratitude that they’d be around to join us. The evening started with Julie and Aaron and a few other friends helping us set up, get food ready, and greet people as they arrived. It’s a task they instinctively know to do, circling among the guests, making sure everyone feels welcome and included.

I am grateful for friends who come alongside and help us. We intentionally invite others into our home and lives alongside friends who understand that this is one way to share the love of God. Building relationships with people takes time, and our close friends are on mission with us to love those around us well. We each support one another and the relationships we’re developing beyond our faith community.

We are meant to work alongside others to reach those who may be far from God. As believers, we are a part of one body, and each part has its work to do while also complementing and supporting the others. We need one another and our gifts to live with meaning and purpose—and besides, it’s just more fun to do it with friends!
