Too Many Michaels
TOO MANY MICHAELS
Read Psalm 8.
“Daniel, your friend Michael called. He wants you to call him back,” Mom said.
Daniel went to call his friend. There was no answer. Then he remembered that Michael was out of town. “Was it Michael Burke?” he asked.
“Oh, no, it was Michael White,” said Mom.
Just then Daniel’s older sister came into the room, smiling. “I’m going out with Michael!”
Daniel and Mom burst out laughing. “Which Michael?” they asked together.
That night Daniel looked at his list of prayer requests. One name on it was that of a boy at church who needed surgery for a serious heart condition. “Dear Lord, please bless Michael,” Daniel began. Then he paused. “You know, the one who needs heart surgery.”
Suddenly, Daniel thought about how many Michaels there were in the world. There must be many Daniels, Jessicas, and Sarahs, too. All of a sudden Daniel felt small and unimportant.
A few days later Mom said, “Michael’s mom called today. Michael had his surgery today, and he’s doing fine,” she told Daniel. “Guess what? There are three other Michaels there! But don’t worry—Michael’s mother is the head nurse on that floor. Believe me, she knows which Michael belongs to her!”
When Daniel prayed for his friend that night, he knew he didn’t have to remind God which Michael was being prayed for, or which Daniel was doing the asking. Just as a mother knows her son, God knows each of His children.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you think God ever gets tired of caring for so many people? Do you ever wonder if He is too busy to hear your requests, fears, or problems? Don’t worry! God knows each of His children, and each one is special to Him.
TO MEMORIZE:
Now, O Jacob, listen to the LORD who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.”
Isaiah 43:1
GOD KNOWS YOU.
