The Wrong Way
THE WRONG WAY
Read Haggai 1:5-7.
“You should have seen Brianne today!” laughed Jim as the family began their dinner. His sister sent him a nasty look. “The girls wanted to play touch football with us guys, so we let them play with us today. Know what Brianne did? When she got the ball, she ran toward the wrong goal line! Almost made a touchdown, too—for the wrong team. What a riot!”
Brianne reluctantly joined in the laughter at her expense. “You’re in good company,” Dad consoled her. “It’s happened before! Way back in 1929, a fellow named Roy Riegels played for the California Golden Bears. One time when he got the ball, he headed for the wrong goal with do-or-die determination. One of his teammates finally managed to bring him down just a yard from the goal line. But his team still lost the game.”
“Good thing it was only a game,” observed Mom. “There’s an important lesson for us, though. Some people are running long and hard in the game of life, and they don’t realize they’re running in the wrong direction.”
“That’s true,” said Dad. “Many people are trying hard to live a good life. In fact, their ‘good deeds’ sometimes put Christians to shame. But in spite of those ‘good deeds,’ they’re still sinners because they refuse to acknowledge Jesus as the only way to heaven. When all is said and done, they’ll find that they went the wrong way. What a tragedy!”
“That’s sad,” declared Brianne. “Maybe I didn’t know which way to run in the football game, but I’m sure glad I know the way to heaven.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you running the wrong way in life? You are if you’re trying to get to heaven by any other way than through Jesus Christ.
