The Best Team
THE BEST TEAM
Read Romans 5:17-21.
“Our team won!” shouted Erica as she dashed into the house. “Look what I got!” She held out a first-prize ribbon. “We had an archery competition at school today, and my team won!”
“And you always say you’re no good in archery,” said Mom. “How many points did you make?”
“None, but it didn’t matter, because Cheryl was on our team,” replied Erica. “She’s the best archer in school, and she made enough points for all of us.”
“So she really did the winning, but the whole team shared the victory, right?” asked Mom. “Well, I’m glad you had a good time today.”
That evening Erica and her parents attended a special service at church. “I know just what the pastor meant tonight when he talked about Christians being righteous in God’s sight,” remarked Erica on the way home. “When we truly believe in Jesus as our Savior, His blood washes away all our sin. Then God sees His righteousness instead of our sin.”
“That reminds me of your archery victory today,” said Mom. “Just as you were on the winning team, we could say we’re on Jesus’ team.”
“That’s right,” agreed Dad, “and just as Cheryl’s points counted for all those on the team, the holiness of Jesus counts for everybody on His team. All Christians share in Jesus’ victory over sin.”
“And the prize we get is wonderful,” Mom added. “Eternal life with Jesus!”
