Some Bright Morning
SOME BRIGHT MORNING
Read 2 Corinthians 5:6-9.
The long row of cars moved slowly from the church to the cemetery. There, standing between her parents, Laura struggled to keep her tears from overflowing again.
“Kim is now in the presence of Jesus,” said Pastor Drew. “She sees His kind face and hears His gentle voice. Kim is able to run and laugh now. And God’s Word says that those who belong to Jesus will see her again some bright morning in heaven.” The minister’s thoughtful words gave assurance to the family and friends who had assembled after Kim’s funeral service.
For as long as Laura could remember, she and Kim had gone to school and Sunday school together. Both had accepted Jesus as Savior when they were little. Now Kim was gone, and Laura’s heart was sad. She looked around at Kim’s other classmates. Each carried a balloon.
The minister’s quiet words broke into Laura’s thoughts. “These balloons will picture the freedom of Kim’s spirit. The Bible tells us that the spirit of the one who believes in Jesus goes to be with Him. Kim’s spirit is home now.”
The pastor held up a pink balloon. “Let’s release our balloons together in celebration of Kim’s new home,” he said. In an instant, as all eyes were raised skyward, a cloud of balloons danced in the summer breeze.
“Good-bye, Kim,” Laura whispered. “I’ll be seeing you.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Have you known someone who has died? Perhaps you wonder what it would be like to die. Jesus has promised to take Christians to heaven when they die. They live forever with Him there. The Bible says that for a Christian, to “be away from these earthly bodies” is to “be at home with the Lord.”
TO MEMORIZE:
Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever.
