Ragamuffin (part 2)
RAGAMUFFIN (PART 2)
Read Psalm 111:1-10.
Rick and Yolanda enjoyed romping with Ragamuffin, the stray puppy they found. They taught him tricks and took him on walks. They were delighted that no one answered the newspaper ad seeking Ragamuffin’s owners.
But not everything was pleasant. Ragamuffin got into trouble. Sometimes he tracked mud into the house or knocked things over and broke them. Though Rick and Yolanda were patient, they often had to punish their puppy.
During dinner one day, the children scolded Ragamuffin for snitching food off the table. They worried that their dog might not like them after being punished. But Ragamuffin was as loyal as ever. He ran to meet them, wagging his tail and following them around. “Ragamuffin makes us feel like we’re really important to him,” observed Rick.
“You are,” said Mom. “You rescued him and you take care of him. Ragamuffin knows that, and he loves you in return.”
“Reminds me of someone who has rescued us,” said Dad. Seeing the children’s puzzled looks, he continued, “Our heavenly Father loves us. He saved us, and He provides for us. But I wonder if we remind God how important He is to us?”
“I never thought of it like that,” Yolanda said. “I guess I sometimes act mad when God doesn’t let things work out the way I want them to.”
“And sometimes I get impatient when God doesn’t answer my prayers right away,” admitted Rick.
Mom nodded. “I’m afraid we’re all guilty. We need to learn to give to God the kind of unconditional devotion that Ragamuffin gives to you.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Is God important to you? Do you give Him your time? Show God that you love Him by being obedient to His Word and serving Him. Tell Him you love Him when you pray and go about your day!
TO MEMORIZE:
We love each other because he loved us first.
1 John 4:19
BE DEVOTED TO GOD.
