PILOT IN CONTROL
Read Psalm 121.
Jenna clasped her hands together as the plane taxied down the runway. She had always wanted to fly, and here she was—flying with her brother, Devon, to visit their grandmother. But now she was nervous.
After they were airborne, Jenna didn’t relax at all. “Do the engines sound funny?” she asked. “Should we be flying so high? What if there’s another plane in the clouds? Won’t we crash?”
“The pilot and copilot know what they’re doing,” Devon finally said. “You don’t need to take over for them, okay? Now relax so we can enjoy our trip.”
“Okay,” said Jenna, but she was very glad when they were finally back on solid ground.
“Did you have a good flight?” asked Grandma.
Devon nodded. “I did. But Jenna was nervous as a cat. I told her she should trust the pilot and copilot and not try to take over for them. Then you tried to relax, didn’t you?” She nodded.
Grandma put an arm around Jenna’s shoulders. “I’m afraid we all forget to trust our Pilot from time to time.”
Jenna looked at Grandma in surprise. “Are you afraid of flying too, Grandma?”
Grandma smiled. “Not really,” she said. “I was thinking of how we sometimes fail to trust the Pilot of our lives. Do you know who that is?”
Jenna nodded. “God,” she said.
“Yes,” said Grandma. “You know, of course, that you couldn’t have taken over the flight because it would have meant disaster. We need to let God keep control of our life, too—it’s foolish for us to try to take over.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
