Out Of Tune
OUT OF TUNE
Read Philippians 2:1-5.
“Where’s my guitar pick?” demanded James. “You’ve been in my room again, haven’t you, Mandy? I left my pick on my dresser, and now it’s gone.”
“I didn’t take it,” said Mandy. “And I don’t go in your room.”
“Well, someone took it!” James stomped down the hall and slammed his bedroom door. Mandy’s brother had been acting like this often in recent weeks.
Later that evening James sat at the piano, tuning his guitar. “Where did you find your pick?” asked Mom. “Mandy told me you thought she had taken it.”
“It was in my pocket,” James muttered. He struck a piano key with one finger. Plunk! Plunk! Then he plucked a guitar string. Ping! Ping! Plunk! After a few more twists and turns his guitar was in tune.
“You’re getting pretty good, Son,” said Dad.
“Why do you always listen to the piano and the guitar together?” asked Mandy.
“If all the strings aren’t in tune with the piano, they don’t sound good with each other, either,” explained James.
Mom looked at James. “Just like each of your guitar strings has to be in tune with the piano, so every member of the family needs to be in harmony with God. Otherwise, they are out of tune with each other,” she said thoughtfully.
Dad nodded. “I’ve been hearing angry words around here. Could it be someone is out of tune?”
James sighed. “All right—I know it’s me,” he admitted. “I’m sorry.”
