Oh, Boy!

OH, BOY!

Read Isaiah 55:8-11.

“Oh, boy! It’s a boy, isn’t it?” Leo was jumping up and down while his grandmother talked to Leo’s father, who was at the hospital.

Grandma hung up the phone. “You have a beautiful baby sister named Melissa,” she said.

“No!” said Leo. “I’ve been praying for a brother. It’s not fair. Cory got a baby brother, and he didn’t even pray.”

Grandma sat down in the chair by the coffee table. “I got out the album that has your baby pictures in it,” she said. “You sure were cute.”

“That was a long time ago. I’m in school now,” said Leo proudly.

“I remember how happy your mom and dad were when they were expecting you,” Grandma told him. “When people asked if they wanted a girl or boy, they said that either would be okay.”

Leo picked an apple from the basket of fruit. “I’m sure they were glad I was a boy.”

“They were pleased, but I was disappointed. I wanted a granddaughter,” confessed Grandma.

“Grandma!” Leo was shocked. “Don’t you like me?”

“Oh yes,” Grandma assured him, “but I already had five grandsons. I thought it would be nice to have a girl in the family.” She gave Leo a hug. “But now I love you very much. You’ll love your sister, too. Thank God for her.”

“Grandma, I still don’t think it was fair of you to wish I were a girl,” Leo said, pouting.

Grandma’s eyes twinkled. “Less fair than for you to wish your sister were a boy?” she asked.

Leo looked surprised. “When can Melissa come home?” he asked eagerly.

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Do you blame God if He doesn’t answer your prayers your way? Do you ask for things to satisfy your own selfish desires, or do you ask for God’s will to be done? He has a purpose for everything.

TO MEMORIZE:

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
