JUST LIKE JESUS (PART 1)
Read John 13:12-17.
Bethany laughed as she watched her little brother, Nathan, playing in the living room. He had climbed up into Dad’s favorite chair and was pretending to read the newspaper. He shouted, “I’m just like Daddy!”
Bethany just couldn’t resist giving Nathan a big hug. “Wait right there so we can show Mommy what a big boy you are.”
By the time Bethany returned to the living room with her mother, Nathan had put the paper down on his lap and was pretending to fall asleep. He was even leaning back with his hands behind his head, just like Dad did when he was finished reading the paper.
“Isn’t that cute, Mom?” whispered Bethany, giggling. “He’s trying to be just like Dad.”
Mom smiled. “That’s how children learn. They imitate people.”
“Did I ever do that?” asked Bethany.
“Sure you did,” replied Mom. “You used to pretend you were making dinner. You would get the pots and pans out of the cupboard and tell me that you were making mashed potatoes.” Bethany went over to pick up her brother as Mom continued to speak. “That reminds me of an important lesson in the Bible, Bethany. As Christians, we need to imitate Jesus in order to learn how to live as mature Christians.”
“But if we can’t see Jesus, how can we imitate Him?” Bethany asked. “Oh, wait—I know. We have the Bible. That tells us how He lived.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you learning to imitate Jesus? Studying God’s Word will help you. Then when you are in a situation at school or at home, try to think of what Jesus would do if He were in your place. Imitate Him.
TO MEMORIZE:
Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.
Ephesians 5:1
