Hiding Place
HIDING PLACE
Read Psalm 143:7-12.
Tim curled up under the desk in his room. It was his special hiding place. He always came here when he felt sad. Today he felt bad because he’d missed a shot in his basketball game, and several kids had yelled at him.
Then he heard Mom calling, “Tim! Grandpa’s here.” Tim scrambled out.
He and Grandpa sat down in the family room to visit—just the two of them. “Where were you just now?” Grandpa asked.
“I was feeling bad about a ball game. So I went to my special hiding place,” Tim said, knowing Grandpa would never tell anyone.
“Say, that’s a good idea,” said Grandpa. “I had a hiding place of my own when I was a boy. It was in the hayloft of the barn.” Grandpa’s face beamed as he added, “I still have a hiding place.”
Tim looked surprised. “You do?” He wondered where Grandpa would hide out.
Grandpa nodded. “Get your Bible,” he said, “and I’ll give you a clue as to where I go.”
When Tim returned, Grandpa said, “Look up Psalm 143:9, and you’ll find the answer.”
They read it together: “Rescue me from my enemies, LORD; I run to you to hide me.”
“That’s right,” said Grandpa. “I go to God when I’m sad. When I’m alone, talking to Him, I’m in the best hiding place of all.”
“Next time I’m sad, I’m going to go to the same hiding place you do, Grandpa,” Tim said. “I can do that in my other secret hiding place.”
