Guess Who’s Coming?
GUESS WHO’S COMING?
Read 2 Peter 1:16-21.
“Guess who’s coming to our house!” Cathy said as she skipped down the street with her friend Brittany. Her eyes were bright with excitement.
“I don’t know. Who?” Brittany asked. “It must be someone important! You’re so excited!”
“Oh, Brittany,” squealed Cathy. “Remember when we read that book at school about the orange elephant?”
Brittany nodded. “Sure, I remember. That was a good book! Now tell me who’s coming to your house—the orange elephant?”
“Almost!” laughed Cathy. “No, it’s Martha Briggs—the woman who wrote the book! See, my mom knew Mrs. Briggs in college, except her name was Martha Alberg then, since she wasn’t married yet. My mom didn’t realize it was the same Martha! But now she . . .”
“Wait a minute,” Brittany interrupted. “Slow down, Cathy. You mean the author of The Orange Elephant is coming to your house?”
“That’s right,” bubbled Cathy, “and you could come over and meet her while she’s here!”
Brittany had to admit that Cathy had reason to be excited. “I wish I knew an author personally,” she said to her mother later.
Mom smiled. “You do, Brittany—an author who is even more important than Mrs. Briggs.”
“I do?” Brittany couldn’t believe it! “Who?”
“You’re a Christian, a child of God,” Mom told her, “and God is the author of the Bible.”
“That’s right, Mom!” agreed Brittany. She giggled. “I can tell Cathy that I know the most famous author of all!”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you know any authors? You do if Jesus is your Savior! Through the Holy Spirit, God told writers (such as John, Paul, and Moses) what to write in the Bible. So it is God who is the author of the Bible, not people. And He wrote it especially for you!
TO MEMORIZE:
