A Way To Serve
A WAY TO SERVE
Read 1 Samuel 2:18-19, 26.
It was Saturday, and Melinda lay across her bed as she read an exciting missionary story. Wow, she thought. I wish I could serve God, but I’m only a kid.
“Melinda, come here, please,” Mom called from the kitchen. “Mrs. Rodrigues is sick, and I want you to take this stew over there.” Melinda sighed but did as her mom asked.
When she arrived, Melinda noticed that the breakfast and lunch dishes were still on the table. She loaded them into the dishwasher and set the table for dinner.
When Melinda got home, Mom asked her to run some magazines over to Mrs. Wilson. “You’re a sweet girl, Melinda,” Mrs. Wilson said.
When Melinda arrived home once again, she was singing. “Well, you seem to be in a good mood,” Mom remarked. “Would you feed Robbie?”
“Sure,” said Melinda.
At dinner Melinda’s mood became heavy. “I wish I could grow up fast so I could serve the Lord,” she said, “like the missionary I’ve been reading about.”
Mom looked up in amazement. “Why, Melinda, you’ve been doing things for the Lord all afternoon.”
“I have?” Melinda asked.
“You helped Mrs. Rodrigues,” Mom pointed out. “You visited with Mrs. Wilson. You—”
“But, Mom, that was for people,” sighed Melinda.
“How do you think missionaries serve the Lord?” asked Mom. “They do it by doing things for people. Everyone can serve God by serving others.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
What have you done to serve God lately? You serve Him by serving others. Make a list of two or three things you can do today to help others.
TO MEMORIZE:
Worship the LORD with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.
Psalm 100:2
SERVE GOD BY SERVING OTHERS.
