A Trip To Jewel Cave
A TRIP TO JEWEL CAVE
Read John 3:16-21.
The Carr family was on vacation, and one of the places they visited was Jewel Cave. Ryan was excited about being in a cave. He listened carefully as Peter, their tour guide, led them down the narrow paths. He really liked the different rock formations and was interested in hearing about the people who first explored the cave.
“Now,” Peter said, as they stopped in a small opening, “I’m going to turn off the lights so you can see what it means to be truly in the dark.” Peter was certainly right about it being dark. Ryan couldn’t see a thing! He could not even see his fingers, though he put them right in front of his face. It was darker than night. At night Ryan could at least see shadows.
Peter made a joke about leaving the people in the darkness while he went on a coffee break. Everyone laughed, but it made Ryan think. He knew the Bible described people who didn’t know Jesus as Savior as being lost in darkness. Now that he was in the dark, he realized that it was a scary place to be.
Of course, Peter was just joking about leaving the tour group in the dark cave, but Ryan knew the Lord wasn’t joking when He talked about the darkness of sin. Ryan remembered, too, that Jesus spoke of being the Light of the World, and he was thankful he had asked Jesus to be his Savior.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you still in darkness—the darkness of sin? Jesus is called the Light of the World, and He is willing to take away the darkness from those who trust in Him. Ask Him to do that today!
