A Safe Place
A SAFE PLACE
Read Isaiah 49:13-16.
“What do you need, Mom?” asked Kayla. She was going to the store for her mother.
“A gallon of milk, a loaf of bread, and cheese slices,” Mom replied. “Can you remember that?” She glanced at her daughter. “What are you doing?”
Kayla lifted her head and grinned at her mom. She turned her hand to show her mother what she had done. “I wrote the list on my hand with this pen,” she said. “That way I’ll be able to remember what you need.”
“That’s a unique idea, but you could have used a piece of paper,” suggested Mom.
Kayla shook her head. “This is better. I might lose paper, but I can’t lose my hand.”
Mom laughed and gave Kayla a hug. “You’re right,” she agreed. “Wait a minute. I want to show you an interesting verse in the Bible.” Walking over to her desk, Mom picked up her Bible and opened it to Isaiah 49. “Read this,” she said.
Kayla read a verse aloud. “I have written your name on the palms of my hands.” She looked up at her mother. “Hey, that’s neat! God writes on His hands too.”
Mom nodded. “God said Israel’s name was written on His hands, and I believe we can apply that to Christians, too. And God’s writing will never come off.”
Kayla looked down at the black writing on her hand. “That makes me feel good,” she said. She closed her hand over the writing. “In God’s hands—that’s a safe place to be, isn’t it?”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Have you ever written on your hand to remember a school assignment or someone’s phone number? Your hand is a safe place for such things, isn’t it? Is your name written on God’s hand? God’s hands are the safest place to be.
TO MEMORIZE:
