Me Too

Psalm 103:15-22

15Our days on earth are like grass;

like wildflowers, we bloom and die.

16The wind blows, and we are gone—

as though we had never been here.

17But the love of the LORD remains forever

with those who fear him.

His salvation extends to the children’s children

18of those who are faithful to his covenant,

of those who obey his commandments!

19The LORD has made the heavens his throne;

from there he rules over everything.

20Praise the LORD, you angels of his,

you mighty creatures who carry out his plans,

listening for each of his commands.

21Yes, praise the LORD, you armies of angels

who serve him and do his will!

22Praise the LORD, everything he has created,

everywhere in his kingdom.

As for me—I, too, will praise the LORD.

There comes a time in every child’s life when he or she wants desperately to be included. “Me too!” is the common response. If you’re headed out the door, the child wants to tag along. If you express your opinion on anything—from your favorite color to the national debt—the child is likely to agree . . . “Yes, that’s what I think, too.”

In some ways we never outgrow this. “Me too” is what crazes are made of. The kid next door has a Hula Hoop, so you want one, too. The family across the street buys a sports utility vehicle, so you’ve got to get one, too. If a crowd of people stands on a street corner staring up into the sky, what do you do? Join them! If there’s something interesting going on up there, you want to see it!

This last section of Psalm 103 sees something very interesting going on up there and all around. The Lord rules from the heavens, and angels are poised to do his bidding. Everything in the whole universe is summoned to a massive praisefest, extolling the mighty Maker. “Me too,” the psalmist pipes up. As insignificant as he is in terms of his lifespan, the psalmist wants to join in the choir of praise.

And praise the Spirit, Three in One.
