Your Marketing Strategy - Your Positioning Statement (Part Deux)
Your Marketing Strategy - Your Positioning Statement (Part Deux)
ONCE YOU DETERMINE what makes you special, it’s time to write your positioning statement.
So what exactly is a positioning statement? In business, it is a fact-based statement used internally by a product or service organization to focus the employees on the product or service’s key differentiator. In your personal life, crafting such a statement may help you bring clarity and confidence to your roles in life.
The fill-in-the-blank exercise looks like this:
[product’s name] provides [what the product delivers] because of [product’s name] [key differentiator]
To clarify and articulate our value as individuals, try this exercise so that it applies to you:
I provide [what you bring to your relationships or marketplace] because of my [your experience or value system]
I’ve included my three positioning statements below as examples:
My professional positioning statement: I provide marketing strategies and creative solutions to my clients because of my proven twenty-year success in selling goods and services in the consumer marketplace.
My personal positioning statement: I provide my husband, grown children, and granddaughter both the time and attention they deserve because of my devoted love to them and my desire to leave a meaningful legacy to my family.
My purpose positioning statement: I provide biweekly e-mails to my girlfriends to encourage them to live a life of uncommon joy because I think we all take on too many projects, which messes with our minds. Heh, heh, heh . . .
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.They cannot be numbered! (Psalm 139:17)
Actually, my real purpose positioning statement is to encourage my girlfriends to live intentionally with uncommon joy, but I think it’s also important to have fun with this exercise. As you write, I hope you will learn to really love who you are and why you are. There’s nothing better for self-assurance than a little self-love.
