The Pushmi-pullyu Of Perfection
The Pushmi-Pullyu of Perfection
FATHER GOD, you have spoken to me and I realize that I am dealing with a pushmi-pullyu of perfection that has
caused me to curse my physical body more than praise you for my health and agility;
caused me to hyperfocus on my shape and weight rather than my substance;
plagued me with guilt and shame over my parenting skills;
caused me to be judgmental of other parents who are dealing with difficult children;
caused me to generate and communicate unrealistic expectations of my partner;
plagued my mind with destructive thinking at work.
Actions I will take:
Example: I will not weigh myself this week, nor complain about my weight, but rather will praise God every day for my health and agility.
Father, I know that I am wonderfully and uniquely made by you. I thank you for giving me a desire to achieve at exceptional levels. But I pray that you will help me tame the beast of perfection that often thwarts my ability to live fully in the moment and to be content with the gifts I have been given. Teach me, God, to corral the pushmi-pullyu of perfection. Amen.
