The Piano Lesson

FATHER GOD, I confess before you that I

am not spiritually prepared to live through a season of suffering;

often feel like I’m sitting on the bench alone;

have moved around and can’t find middle C;

have been hitting all the wrong notes;

have failed to come to you with a prayer of praise;

am prayed out;

have been doing all the asking and none of the listening;

have not prayed honestly;

have prejudices.

Actions I will take:

Example: I will begin my prayer life each day with a spirit of grace and praise, rather than supplication.

Father, I come to you today in need of your forgiveness, as I have much to learn about you. I praise you for being the Holy God of all creation and the lover of my soul. Transform my mind that I might take in your ways; transform my heart so I look to glorify you, rather than tend to my selfish needs. And build a fire in my soul, Father, that is pure in its longing for you. Amen.
