Our Secret Sauce, His Recipe - Compliment the Beauty Queen
I WAS MY DADDY’S favorite. No, really. I was. Each of my half sisters claims he loved her most, but I know for a fact that Daddy favored me. There was never a day in my life when I did not feel valued by my father. And most days, I felt like a beauty queen.
My father was generous with compliments, whether admiring my new hairstyle, a good grade on my report card, or a new outfit. He would sometimes whistle if I came out of my bedroom especially dolled up. I would twirl around as he gushed.
In her heart, every little girl longs to be the apple of her father’s eye and the only woman her husband really sees. She longs for the beauty queen days of her youth. Steve gets that.
I don’t know if he’s ever gone a day in our marriage without complimenting me. One day it might be my outfit; another day it might be the way I handled a difficult situation with a client. Whether he tells me that I look cute or that I’m an asset to our company, I know that I am valuable to him. I know, without a doubt, that I am his beauty queen.

Do I believe he has eyes only for me? Oh, I know Steve must look sometimes, but he’s so discreet, I never catch him. It’s just another way he honors the woman sitting at his side (and preserves his own life).
