Moving Through The Fog - You Can’t Do A Swan Dive In Shallow Water

Moving through the Fog - You Can’t Do a Swan Dive in Shallow Water

THINK ABOUT this truth: you can’t do a swan dive in shallow water.

Sometimes our disappointments are self-inflicted. Have you ever made the exact same mistake twice? Urrggghh . . . I hate when I do that! How is it that we don’t see the makings of disaster the second time around? I believe it’s because we fail to invest the time required to analyze how we ended up in the situation. And I think this lack of reflection causes some people to try to do a swan dive in shallow water . . . again, even though their heads still hurt from the last time they tried it!

As a dog returns to its vomit,so a fool repeats his foolishness. (Proverbs 26:11)

King Solomon wasn’t joking when he said wisdom is clearly the key to a happy life. My dictionary defines it as the ability to apply knowledge, experience, understanding, or common sense and insight. But before we can apply the knowledge gained from a downfall, we must first identify what was at the root of it. So what are the basic questions we should ask ourselves when we find ourselves in a mess?

What in the world just happened?

Has this ever happened before? (If yes, this is the reason you better analyze the situation now!)

Why did it happen?

What role did I play? Did I cause it or enable it? Could I have prevented it?

Can I fix it?

If I can, when and how will I?

What precautions can I take to ensure this same scenario doesn’t happen again?

What are the warning bells I should identify now to alert me that I’m heading toward trouble again?

Girlfriends, when you identify exactly what happened and why, you’re much better prepared to see the warning signs if you’re faced with a similar situation in the future. And as strange as it is, you most likely will find yourself back at the top of the same platform looking down at the same shallow, muddy water! Be prepared.
