I Heard It on the Radio - “Wild Women Do”
OVER THE PAST ten years, the women’s magazines that haven’t led with a cover story about sex are few and far between. The other day I picked one up in the nail salon, and as I read the article, I know my face must have matched the “passionately pink” on my toes!
So if there’s so much written, so graphically, on the topic, why does it appear that sex in marriage has died? Are we preoccupied with work? exhausted from the kids? aggravated with our husband? Is it that we feel unattractive?
Let’s start with work. I know that when I’m under pressure from clients, financial obligations, or challenges with employees, a romp in the hay is not exactly on my list of priorities. But if I place more value on the quality of my marriage than on the quality of my work, sex with my husband will move to the top of my to-do list.
Kids? Well, at least we know you had sex once. But have you had it since? Climbing into bed with Mommy and Daddy, those little toots really have a way of draining the romance out of a marriage. But if I place more value on the intimacy of my marriage than the immediate comfort of my children, I will march the little munchkins right back to their own beds.
He got home late from the office (again) and didn’t help with the kids’ homework (again). This kind of stuff is a definite mood breaker for us, gals. But if I place more value on the tenure of my marriage than on my displeasure with him tonight, I will fall asleep in his arms rather than with my face to the wall.
And then there’s the issue that we just don’t feel sexy anymore. We gain weight. Our muscle tone sags. Cellulite invades. Age can do a real number on a woman’s psyche when it comes to sex. But if I place more value on my marriage rather than the idol worship of my body, I will be moved that he’s still moved by me.
“Wild women do, and they don’t regret it.”a So goes the song—and so should we, with our husbands.
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly. (Colossians 3:18-19)
Ladies, sex is a critical component of a high-quality, long, and intimate marriage. Make your marriage bed an honor unto God. Get wild.
