Due to Circumstances beyond Our Control - Fear (Part Deux)

Due to Circumstances beyond Our Control - Fear (Part Deux)

All I have seen teaches me to trust the creator for all I have not seen.—Ralph Waldo Emerson

HERE’S A BIG FEAR that I’ve seen plague a lot of women: you will not get something that is rightfully yours.

Many people are anxious that they’re not going to get what they deserve. That, somehow, someone else’s good fortune will eliminate their chance to be successful too. Trust me: you’re going to get exactly what you deserve. Nothing more. Nothing less. It disappoints me to see women begrudging a sister’s success in the workplace, envying her financial status, or being jealous of her love life. Girlfriends! Just because she got the promotion, cool house, or diamond ring doesn’t mean you can’t get it too!

Another area this plays out is in families—especially after a parent’s or grandparent’s death. It breaks my heart to see the family circle dissolve over silly disputes. In the grand scheme of the family’s importance, does it really matter who gets Nanna’s china or Poppa’s watch? If you didn’t get the house, your rightful share of the life insurance, the crystal, or the whatever—relax. Something better is bound to come (or perhaps has already come) your way.

A similar fear you may battle comes from “victim” thinking, fearing that your life is a bigger mess than everyone else’s. If you think you have been dealt a raw deal, I challenge you to do this: gather a group of ten women together and ask them to share 1) their greatest heartbreak, 2) their biggest concern for their family, and 3) an unrealized dream. I promise you—regardless of your own troubles—you will be praising God that you don’t have their problems and you will become much more content with your own.

Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. (John 14:1)

Everyone is given both blessings and burdens. You will get the blessings that are perfect for you; likewise, you will be granted only those burdens that you can carry with grace.
