Warriors For The King

Warriors For The King

My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. Psalm 73:26

One of my greatest joys in life is visiting a nursing home. When I review the medical records of my patients, I can see how age and disease have made them a shadow of the person they once were. But the stories they tell are often uplifting and inspirational. They defy the weariness of the storyteller’s aging mind and body.

When I listen to older people talk about their life and faith, I realize how much more I receive from these quiet souls than I give. I’m also reminded that growing old is not for the faint of heart. These seniors wear their silver hair with pride as if it were a shiny metal star given to a great warrior at the end of a battle.

In many ways, that’s what these saints are—aging warriors who have given their all for the King of kings. And though their minds are not as sharp as they once were, and though their eyes and ears have begun to fail them in this world, their vision of what awaits them in heaven is clear. Like the psalmist, they know they will soon be in the presence of their King forever.

TODAY’S RX

We all age, so let us do it with grace and humility, forever looking to our God as the strength of our hearts.

God, may I always have a grateful heart for every day I’m given. My life is a gift, and I praise you for all the joys and experiences you’ve given me.
