Seek God, Not Your Expectations

But Naaman became angry and stalked away. “I thought he would certainly come out to meet me!” he said. “I expected him to wave his hand over the leprosy and call on the name of the LORD his God and heal me!” 2 Kings 5:11

So often when we seek healing we think we have all the answers as to where we should look. I have patients who consult with specialists, some at internationally recognized medical centers that specialize in their particular condition. Some comb the Internet in search of an unknown cure. Others have sought help from vitamins, cleanses, or a faith healer.

Despite trying everything, their condition continues to worsen. They’re not seeing the healing they envisioned. After consulting with specialists, they return to me with the news that nothing can be done. I know how discouraging this is.

Naaman was so discouraged that he was angry about his situation. He expected a miraculous healing, but because his pride got in the way, he hadn’t listened to the simple instructions he’d been given!

If you or someone you love seems to be in a no-win health situation, pray about whether or not the healing you’re seeking is what God wants you to seek. It may be that in that moment, he has something more important for you than physical healing.

Jesus, you heal more than just physical ailments; you heal the heart. Thank you for showing me your grace as you’ve walked beside me through this season.
