Listen, Trust, And Obey

Listen, Trust, And Obey

Lord, your discipline is good, for it leads to life and health. You restore my health and allow me to live! Isaiah 38:16

I’m sure my patients think I sound like a broken record! I’m always telling them what they should eat and drink (or what they shouldn’t eat and drink). Patients who listen show signs of improved health. Those who don’t? Well, often they don’t fare as well.

Your doctor’s job is to listen to you and your needs. Then he or she should help you map out a strategy for good health. Your job is to listen to what the doctor says, provide input into the strategy, and then follow the plan as best you can.

Today’s verse shows that the Lord’s discipline is good and leads to good outcomes. Of course! That’s a strategy crafted by the Great Physician himself. He cares about every aspect of our lives and health.

In the desert, God not only directed the Israelites’ path, but he also directed them to healthy food and drink. When they didn’t have food, he sent manna. When the water was unfit to drink, he purified it. But to benefit from his advice, the people had to listen and obey.

I have patients who claim to hear what I say, but they don’t always do what I tell them. I keep repeating the same things to them, however, because I desire to see them healthy.

TODAY’S RX

Listen to your doctor and do your best to do what he or she says. When the Israelites listened and obeyed, great things happened. The same will be true for your health.

Lord, help me to trust you throughout my healing process and listen to my doctors’ advice. Thank you for putting well-trained physicians in my life and for providing for me along the way.
