God’s Supply Is Unlimited

When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Ephesians 3:14-16

If I could choose only one passage of Scripture to summarize this book, it would be today’s verses.

In this world, there are limits to the medical resources we can provide. In this world, there is not enough money to pay for every treatment and test that patients or their doctors want. Your doctor may prescribe a certain procedure only to find out it’s not covered, it’s classified as elective, or it is considered medically unnecessary. The medical system today limits us to providing only those things that the patient needs, according to the powers that be.

Insurance companies, and sometimes government programs, help to regulate the flow of resources between the wants and the needs. This is the give-and-take reality that confronts so many people who seek treatment for themselves or their loved ones.

Even if we had unlimited financial resources, we still live in a finite world. Steve Jobs had nearly unlimited resources with his material wealth, yet even he wasn’t able to buy more time on earth. We all are finite mortals.

When my patients are encumbered by the complexities of the health-care system, I remind them of today’s verses. Ultimately, God is our source for all things. His resources are unlimited, and he alone heals. We doctors are just his tools here on earth to help provide temporary cures.

When we look to the infinite, all-powerful, all-knowing God of the universe, we find an endless well of supply. It is from this well that the living waters spring forth to forever heal us.

It only takes a sip of living water for us to never thirst again.

God, there is no one like you. You are infinite, all-powerful, all-knowing, and you love your people with an everlasting love. Thank you for filling my spirit with your living water, reviving me to new life in you.
