Expect A Miracle, Tell The Story

If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Romans 8:31

If you saw Norm sitting in my waiting room, he wouldn’t look any different from any of the other blue-collar workers waiting to see me. He wore flannel work shirts and dungarees and drove an old Ford pickup, but Norm wasn’t part of the crew—he was the guy who owned the company.

I don’t know how much money he makes, but I know he has riches beyond this world that he values more than anything.

Norm entered the exam room and sat down in a chair instead of on the examining table. “Dr. Anderson, I’ve been pretty vocal about my faith for a long time, but after what I’ve been through recently, I have even more reason to talk about it.”

I had always known Norm to be outspoken about his faith. He’d once brought me a sign that said, “Without God, there is no America.”

“When I turned seventy, I went in for my screening like you said. Well, the doctor told me I had a triple A, which sounded like a good grade to me but turned out to be bad news—an abdominal aortic aneurysm, which can be really dangerous. I told the surgeon, ‘If it’s my time to go, I’m going to go.’ But he talked me into doing the surgery anyway.”

“That’s a pretty big operation, even for someone young and healthy,” I said.

“I know,” he said. “The surgeon said that all was going well, but then my kidneys started to fail and so did my heart. Turns out I nearly died in surgery, and they had to take me to the ICU. But that wasn’t the only thing that happened. During that time, I saw Jesus. He turned me around and told me I had to go back, that I had more work to do here on earth. And he wasn’t talking about my business; he was talking about doing his business. So now that I’m back, I’m telling everyone who will listen.”

Norm told me that he’d come home from the hospital and rehab six weeks earlier than anyone expected. “Do you believe in miracles, Doc? Because I sure do!”

TODAY’S RX

Trust in the Lord and expect a miracle. Then, like Norm, tell everyone about it.

Jesus, help me to share my faith with others, offering them the same life-giving hope that you offered me. May their ears be open to your story, and may their lives be changed.
