Blessed With Immunity
Blessed With Immunity
They will not work in vain, and their children will not be doomed to misfortune. For they are people blessed by the LORD, and their children, too, will be blessed. I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers! Isaiah 65:23-24
As she bounced her squirming baby in her lap, the new mother seemed concerned. “I brought him in to get his vaccinations, but I’m not sure I want to now. I keep hearing talk in the media and from celebrities saying that immunizations aren’t safe. Some say they don’t work or that they might cause autism.”
“I know you’re concerned. But a lot of doctors and scientists have studied this issue. They’ve tried to connect vaccinations to all sorts of side effects—but the evidence just isn’t there for a connection between the two. The vaccinations won’t have any long-term adverse effects on your baby.”
“Are there short-term effects?” she asked.
“Well, he might have a little soreness in his leg from where the shot is given or a low-grade fever for a day or two, but the benefits far outweigh the side effects. Without the vaccinations, the consequences could be far worse. He’d be at risk for measles, mumps, rubella, Hepatitis B, diphtheria, pertussis, meningitis, and tetanus. Those could be deadly.”
“I don’t want that.”
“Because of vaccinations, the World Health Organization has practically eliminated smallpox and reduced other diseases to only periodic outbreaks. Modern medicine is one avenue through which God has protected our children, even before we were aware of the dangerous diseases lurking outside our doors.”
“I just want to do what’s right for my son,” she said.
“Here’s how I like to think of it. With our immune system, God has already given us the greatest defense against disease we could possibly have. Vaccination programs are used to activate what God has already given us.”
“That makes sense. Let’s go ahead with the vaccinations.”
“The only thing that could protect him better is God himself.”
