A Bold Ask

Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16

“My baby’s back there; you have to let me in! You have to let me in!”

The mother’s distraught screams could be heard echoing from the waiting room, through the ER door, and down the hall where we were doing everything we could to stabilize her twenty-five-year-old son’s condition. The young man had been in a rollover car accident and had been brought in on a spinal board.

“We need to let her back here,” I said. “She’s not going to give up, and she needs to be a part of what we’re trying to do.”

A few moments later, the door swung open, and the woman rushed toward her son. “My baby, my baby, what are we going to do?”

“Right now, we are stabilizing him and arranging for a transfer to the trauma unit. This would also be a good time for us to pray. He will need every prayer—and then some.”

“Don’t worry too much about praying,” the woman said. “I’m his momma. That’s my job.”

This woman had boldly burst into the emergency room and immediately pressed into what was needed to save her son’s life. That’s the same kind of boldness that God wants from us when we approach him with our cares, concerns, injuries, and pain. He wants us to boldly let him know our needs and fears and to come to him with hearts of thanksgiving for all he has done and will do for us. As today’s verse above says, the throne of God is where we will find his grace and mercy when we need it most.
