There is something special about twins. If you have friends who are twins, you may have found that they are alike in many ways, but they are also different in many ways. Even identical twins have different likes and dislikes.

Rebekah, Isaac’s wife, gave birth to twins. They were both boys, but they weren’t identical. In fact, they were quite different in both looks and personality. Esau, born first, was red and hairy. Jacob had smooth skin, unlike his brother.

Esau loved to be outdoors, and he became a hunter. He was Isaac’s favorite child. Isaac loved to eat the meat Esau brought home. Jacob preferred to be indoors, and he was his mother’s favorite. The parents each having a favorite son caused problems you’ll read about in future devotions.

God had a unique plan for each of Rebekah’s twin sons, but a lot of events kept things from happening as they should have. It didn’t catch God by surprise, though. He knows that we tend to take matters into our own hands instead of waiting for him to work. God is able to take our messes and work them out for his good.

For You

You may not think one incident can change the course of events much, but the decisions you make each day have an impact on your future. Be open to what God has for you each day and follow his prompting when you feel him speaking to you in your heart.
