The Right Time

God gave you a very special gift: time. You have 24 hours a day to use well. Some things happen at certain times—the sun rises in the morning and sets at night. The tide comes in and goes out according to schedule. The seasons change in a predictable way.

There are other things that you—or your parents—control, such as when you get up and when you go to bed, when you eat, when you watch television, when you do homework, when you use the computer, when you go to church, and so on.

Do you make the best use of your time? It’s good to have some kind of plan for how you will spend your day or else you may find yourself spending too much of it playing video or computer games or just hanging out with friends talking.

There are lots of good things to do with those free minutes you have. You can surprise your parents or a neighbor by doing a job without being asked. You can start a new hobby such as model building, knitting, or drawing. You can practice your music or sports skills. You could read all the books written by your favorite author. Set aside time to read your Bible and a devotion book and to pray and journal about what God is showing you through his Word.

There are lots of good things to do with the gift of time God has given you. Plan how to use it well this week.

For You

While you’re deciding how to use your time, try to spend at least fifteen minutes reading the Bible or listening to an audio version of it. Set aside time to help others and build relationships too. These things have more lasting value than time spent just having fun.
