One day Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan. A Jew was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho when robbers attacked him. They beat him and left him half dead. A priest came by, but instead of helping the man, he walked on the other side of the road. Next a Levite, who was a Temple assistant, came by. But he, too, passed the injured man and left him to die.

Then a Samaritan came by. The Jews despised the Samaritans because they were a mixed race, and the Jews prided themselves on being a pure race. Yet it was the Samaritan who stopped and helped the injured man.

The Samaritan bandaged the man’s wounds, put him on the Samaritan’s own donkey, and took him to the local inn. He even paid for the man’s room.

Jesus was showing that our neighbor is anyone who needs our help. Jesus wants people to help each other without worrying about what race or color someone is. He loves everyone, and we should love everyone too.

Take time to go out of your way today to help someone who needs it. Be the Good Samaritan for that person by showing love in Jesus’ name.
