One afternoon Peter and John were on their way to the Temple for prayer. A lame man stayed by the Temple gate so he could beg from the people going to the Temple. The man asked Peter and John to give him money.

Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Peter took the man by the hand and helped him stand to his feet for the first time in his life. The man began walking and leaping. All his life he’d watched others walk and run, and now he could do it himself. The man praised God.

When the people saw the lame beggar running about praising God, they were amazed. Peter took the opportunity to tell the crowd about salvation through Jesus. This made the religious leaders so angry they put Peter and John in prison, but others heard the message and believed. Many more people were added to God’s family that day.

Peter took every opportunity to tell people about Jesus. He shared the gospel with the crowd and even with the religious leaders who didn’t want to hear it. God wants us, too, to use the chances we are given to share the good news of the gospel.

For You

There are chances to tell others about Jesus every day if you keep your eyes open for the opportunities. Sometimes you might just share a Bible verse with someone, and another time you might tell someone how you came to accept Jesus as your Savior. When you do this, you are planting the seeds of the gospel that may grow in someone’s heart and eventually lead them to Christ.
